Oldham County Arts Association’s

Bluegrass Independent Film Festival

New Venue at Great Escape Oldham 8!

The Oldham County Arts Association is proud to announce that the Great Escape Oldham 8 in LaGrange will be the exclusive host for this year's Bluegrass Independent Film Festival.  The films selected from over 200 submissions by independent film makers around the world can now all be enjoyed in the comfort of Oldham 8’s fully equipped theaters. The festival’s new director, Tamara Lee Fulkerson, a freelance make-up artist & the Kentucky Make-up Steward for I.A.T.S.E. 798 in New York, is leading this event—which is rapidly becoming one of the largest Southern film festivals.

The festival, Friday, Sept. 8 through Sunday, Sept. 10, is dedicated to the great filmmaker D.W. Griffith, a native of Oldham County born in LaGrange, who developed some of the earliest techniques in cinematography.  Griffith, called “the father of film” by Charlie Chaplin, was one of Hollywood’s most innovative directors.  "We are very excited about the Oldham 8 venue and believe  LaGrange is the ideal place for a film festival that brings fresh, independent and aspiring talent from across the globe." remarks director Tamara Lee Fulkerson.

“Excellent! Entertaining! Thought-provoking! Moving! These are just a few of the adjectives I’ve used to describe the film festival.” lauded State Senator Ernie Harris.

Building on the success of last year's festival which was attended by over 3,000 people, there has been a 50% increase in film submissions.   In addition to extensive media coverage, individuals and businesses that support the festival are being offered an exciting array of benefits.  For details, please contact the Oldham County Arts Association office at 502-241-1006.  Volunteers are also being sought to work with the film entries, filmmakers, and the various events surrounding the festival.  Help us make this year's festival even better as we highlight original Oldham County hospitality for filmmakers and film enthusiasts.

The festival will showcase independent films from seven different categories: FEATURES, SHORTS, DOCUMENTARIES, COMEDIES, ANIMATION-CLAYMATION, MUSIC VIDEOS, and BEST REGIONAL FILMMAKER.  Audiences will join a panel of judges to view and vote on the films and will also have the invaluable opportunity to meet some of the filmmakers and ask questions.  The winners in each film category will receive cash awards and trophies.

Opening ceremonies begin Friday Sept. 8 at 6 pm at the Great Escape Oldham 8 in LaGrange, KY, with opening remarks and introductions of special guests and filmmakers.  The full schedule of events surrounding the Bluegrass Independent Film Festival will soon be online at www.oldhamcountyarts.org .  Tickets may be purchased online through www.theatermania.com.  To find festival film submissions, please visit www.withoutabox.com .
